Autumn

Autumn is a great time to visit South Hobart. The summer tourist crowds have thinned out and the autumn foliage is stunning. A great event to experience during fall is the annual Huon Valley Apple and Heritage Festival. Held in late April in nearby Huonville, the festival is a celebration of the region's apple heritage. From apple tastings to apple pie eating contests, this event is sure to delight foodies of all ages. The festival also features live music, street performances, and carnival rides.

Winter

Winter in South Hobart may bring some cold weather, but it also brings a wide range of events. An event not to be missed during the winter months is the Dark Mofo festival. A progressive winter festival held in early June, Dark Mofo features music, performance art, and light installations, all curated to celebrate the solstice. Expect to see a large Winter Feast that serves up modern interpretations of local, seasonal fare that is accompanied by a delicious cocktail list. The festival also features a nude solstice swim, bonfire rituals, and performances.

Spring

Spring is the perfect time to explore the beautiful natural surroundings of South Hobart. Pop-up events around the area draw visitors to the outskirts of South Hobart for fun, unique experiences. One such event is the Farmgate Festival. This festival is perfect for foodies and garden enthusiasts. Held over a weekend in late October, the festival takes you on a self-guided tour of some of the best and most beautiful farms, vineyards, and orchards in the Huon Valley. You will get to meet local producers, taste delicious seasonal produce, and enjoy live entertainment.

Summer

One of the seasonal events you should not miss is the Taste of Tasmania festival. Taking place over the New Year’s period, this event allows you to enjoy music, culinary delights, and street performers in multiple locations on the waterfront of Hobart, just a short 10-minute drive from South Hobart. You will also have the opportunity to taste some of the finest wines, ciders and beers from around the state.
